Each of the world’s dive site presents it’s own unique underwater adventure. Some may offer spectacular underwater formation while others may showcase magnificent wildlife, or a combination of both. This in turn creates their own signature experience where divers around the globe are constantly exploring its underwater beauty earning them a place in the top scuba diving destination. These popular dive sites, as classified in the World’s Best Dive Sites, is a list of the best in each category, like: Best in Wreck Diving, Best in Reef Diving, Best in Macro-Photography and a lot more.
As far as Cocos Island is concerned, it is one of the Best in Big Fish, Pelagic Interaction and Liveaboard Experience. It offers non-stop underwater action where big fish, like manta rays, hammerhead sharks, whitetip reef sharks and bigeye trevally, comes from every direction. Another contributing factor why Cocos Island is included in the World’s Best Dive Spot is that you can simultaneously experience different diving specialties, like deep diving, drift diving and nitrox diving, in just a single dive. What’s more is that you can experience all of these in the comfort and luxury living of a liveaboard cruise. You will also have this once in a lifetime opportunity to set foot on the island itself and be amazed by the great wildlife the island holds. Or perhaps, you can relive the stories of pirates, looters and treasure hunters with their treasures buried somewhere on the island.
Determining the sites that will be included in the top 10 list may vary depending on the factors that will be assessed. For example, some list are designed to attract novice divers where they can go diving in areas with relatively confined and easy condition. Some list are designed for the more experienced and adventurous divers who are willing to explore advanced dive sites. But there are also some list designed for hard-core divers and adrenaline junkies who are willing to take time off and spend more time underwater rather than in surface.
With this, if you try to look at the web for the Top 10 Dive Destination, some may feature and include Cocos Island while some may not. This is the same with the Galapagos Island of Ecuador where it shares a similar condition with Cocos Island. If we try to analyze the situation on why Galapagos and Cocos Island comes on and off the list, the far-off distance from the mainland could be a contributing factor on why both of these sites are not frequently visited and reviewed, which is one of the basis for the inclusion in the list.
On the brighter side, think of this idea: the fewer the visiting diver, the better. And this means that the site is not crowded with boats and divers who are racing as to who gets in the water first and enjoy. If this is the case, then might as well go to a marina and watch boats side by side. Remember, we are divers and not boat enthusiast, although some of us are. The bottom line is that you will really experience the words Peace and Tranquility at its best while being surrounded with big fish that welcomes your presence underwater.
So, if you are still completing your bucket list of dive sites to visit this year, then you might consider including Cocos Island in one of your choices. Remember this, Cocos island may not be your number one choice at the start, but after you made the liveaboard trip and explored the vibrant reef and healthy big fish population, we are confidently sure that Cocos island will move-up to the top spot of your list and may consider placing it on your priority dive vacation for the coming years.
